No Piazza but you have Mcgriff, head scratcher. Also if Schilling get in then theres no guestion that Petite should get in.

Also yheres no way Edgar Martinez should make the hall of fame because he was a full time DH.

the names I listed here did not include Mike Piazza

I'm pretty confident in what Mets fans feel about him... I was just curious about other players that I listed.

Morning Mack;
Sandy and his band of lil GMs,have 13 million to spend, and players he can trade. What would you like them to do?
Here are mine
FA Colon or Saunders and Stephen Drew.
Trades Pederson and Gordon from the Dodgers.

Mack Ade said...

Anon -

13mil will not get you Drew

Now, packaging Murphy, and Ike will get you around $8mil more and you can now go out and trade for someone or some group of players that you can pay up to $21mil

Not voting for Biggio. I feel like he is an accumulator. IMO, Jeff Kent made himself into a better ballplayer, but I'm not voting him in yet either. Glavine too, I don't think he's quite good enough.

It's a shame Bonds, Clemens, McGwire and Schilling were dopers. They were all HOF ballplayers without the PEDs.

I don't think we can stick our heads in the sand about the PED users. I don't think we can pretend to know what percentage (25%,50%,75%?) of players were using. We do know that nobody did anything to discourage them until much later. It's inevitable we are going to, or have already, elected unknown PED users to the Hall anyhow.

Mack Ade said...

I go back and forth on PED dudes... most or all of them would have made the HOF anyway.

My vote remains with only clean players and I'd let others votes these guys in.

Craig Brown said...

Its really going to be one of the most interesting votes in a long time... You've got the PED guys, a 3000 hit guy, and two 300 game winners.

I still see only 2 or 3 getting in..

My criteria for a HOF is based on landmark statistics like 300 hits, 600 home runs, and 300 wins. If you hit those numbers youre in...Unless you're attached to the Mitchell report or any other government investigation.

The other criteria is this: Was he one of the greatest players of his generation at his position? For instance: Kirby Puckett may not have had HOF stats, but I saw him play...and that guy was a HOF.

So heres my ballot:

Tom Glavine:

300 game winner, makes him a no doubter in my book

Greg Maddux:

I would have voted for him even if he retired early and finished with 250 wins. He was dominant in a juiced ball era.

Mike Piazza:

Greatest catcher of his generation, and best hitting catcher of all time. Some whispers of PED use but nothing you should be keeping him out for.

Jack Morris:

Jack Morris was already pretty old by the time I saw him pitch, and I still would call him a HOF just on sight alone. Maybe the best pitcher of the 1980's

Craig Biggio:

I'm not the biggest Craig Biggio fan, in fact I think Jeff Kent was the better player. But take a minute and look at the list of ballplayers who have ever gotten 3000 hits...You just can't leave him out.

Craig -

I'm happy you included Morris.

This is the last year his name will be on the ballot

Craig Brown said...

Mack,

I don't understand it. In the eighties and early ninetys if youre team was in a game seven...Jack Morris was THE guy you would want to hand the ball to.

Schilling can suck it. As can Big Mac, who cried like a girl before congress. Sosa? Wrigley product more than the roids.

And sorry, I trend scouts versus stats, but Jack Morris ain't all that. And neither is Donnie baseball.
