April 11th 2015 -- Braves 5, Mets 3

Saturday night in Atlanta the Braves jumped out to 5-0 lead and held on for the win, as they beat the Mets by the score of 5-3 for the second straight night. It was Dillon Gee vs Julio Teheran. The Braves took a 1-0 lead over Gee in the bottom of the 2nd when Gee’s arch nemesis Freddie Freeman homered to right field, his 1st on the year.  In the 5th the Braves got to Gee big time starting the inning with back to back to back doubles from Alberto Callaspo, Christian Bethancourt and Andrelton Simmons. Former Met Eric Young Jr. added an RBI triple and Nick Markakis capped off the 4 run inning with an RBI single to make it 5-0 Atlanta.  The Mets had 1 hit going into the 7th, but they loaded the bases against Julio Teheran on a single by Lucas Duda then back to back walks by Michael Cuddyer and Daniel Murphy.  Callaspo bobbled a grounder by Juan Lagares allowing Duda to score to make it 5-1. Travis d’Arnaud was hit in the back with a pitch to force home Cuddyer and it was 5-2. Wilmer Flores then hit into a double play allowing Murphy to score and it was 5-3. The Mets only managed three hits on the night. Lucas Duda went 2 for 4 and Lagares had an infield hit in the top of the 9th. Gee went 5 innings allowing 8 hits 5 runs (all earned) he walked none and struck out 1. Following Gee, the Mets got scoreless relief from Alex Torres and Sean Gilmartin (Gilmartin tossed 1 2/3 scoreless), Erik Goeddel got the final out of the 8th. Teheran went 6 allowing just 2 hits, 3 runs (only 1 earned) while walking 4 and striking out 5. Brandon Cunniff and Luis Avilan blanked the Mets in their outings and Jim Johnson pitched the 9th for his 1st save on the year.  Gee falls to 0-1, Teheran is now 2-0.  The Mets have now dropped 2 straight and are 2-3 on the year. Sunday Afternoon at 1:30 Est is the series finale. Bartolo Colon (1-0 1.50) goes for the Mets, Alex Wood (1-0 3.60) goes for the sweep for Atlanta.

I don't believe the Flat Offense is indicative of the team's upside---however, the the lack of small/smart ball execution assure losses when you're not hitting the ball.

I am already seeing some cases where lack of an additional bench bat (added bullpen instead) are impacting in-game choices.

Flores looks bat at the plate--but he's an ugly looking hitter. He may never have a "good ab" without a hit...the hits and outs all look ugly... I hope it's there---I have never seen it.

Lagares--- first 500 and 2nd 500 ab's look too much the same---time to GROW!!!

TC is making poor PH decisions with the shortened bench, wasting Kirkkk and Mayberry early and unnecessarily.

He's managing as if he's got a full bench, and he simply can't afford to do that. He's got to learn how to save his bullets.

But, well.
