April 18th 2015 -- Mets 5, Marlins 4

Make it an even 7 for the Mets!

Saturday night at Citi Field Jacob deGrom was in total control as the Mets won their 7th in a row hanging on to nip the Marlins 5-4.

In the bottom of the 2nd Juan Lagares connected on an RBI single to score Eric Campbell for a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd Travis d’Arnaud hit Mat Latos delivery deep into the left field seats, his 2nd on the year and it was 2-0. It the 6th, the Mets piled 3 more on.  Campbell’s opposite field RBI single plated Michael Cuddyer, and then Wilmer Flores clubbed a 2 run homer, his 2nd on the year to make it 5-0.

The Met offense powered 10 hits on the night with 2 apiece by Cuddyer, Campbell, Lagares and Flores. deGrom went 7 scoreless innings allowing 6 hits and striking out 8.  Sean Gilmartin relieved in the 8th and allowed an RBI double by Dee Gordon to make it 5-1. Buddy Carlyle pitched out of trouble to finish the frame.

Carlos Torres ran into some trouble in the 9th yielding a solo homer to Michael Morse (2) and singles to Marcel Ozuna and Adeiny Heachavarria. After a wild pitch Dee Gordon, who went 5 for 5, punched a single scoring 2 to make it a 5-4 game. But Alex Torres came in and retired Christian Yelich to pick up the save. His 1st on the year (and for his career) deGrom improves to 2-1. His ERA falls to a microscopic 0.93. Mat Latos takes the loss for the Fish.

With the win the Mets improve to 9-3 on year and are 6-0 at home for the first time since 1985!

Sunday afternoon it’s Harvey Day. Matt Harvey (2-0 2.25) looks for the 2nd straight sweep for the Mets.  Tom Koehler (1-1 3.18) goes Miami.
