Brevard County 1 - St. Lucie 0

The St. Lucie Mets were held to two hits and were shut out 1-0 by the Brevard County Manatees on Tuesday at Space Coast Stadium.

Victor Roache provided the only run of the game, a solo home run in the second inning off of Vic Black, who was making a Major League rehab appearance for the Mets.

Manatees starter Hiram Burgos blanked the Mets over seven strong innings. He only gave up one hit- a two-out double to Michael Conforto in the first- and struck out eight. He retired the last 13 Mets he faced.

Bobby Parnell, also on a rehab assignment for New York, started the game and pitched a scoreless first inning. He allowed two singles and struck out a batter.

Black struck out two batters, walked two and gave up the solo shot.

The Mets didn’t have many scoring opportunities. Victor Cruzado led off the eighth with a single against Casey Seidenberger, but Seidenberger ended up striking out the side.

Conforto worked a one out walk in the ninth but Casey Medlen struck out Maikis De La Cruz and Dominic Smith flew out to end the game.

Seven of the last eight outs the Mets committed were strikeouts.

Dom Smith off to a tough start, lets hope he can turn it around before he suffers a crisis of confidence. I am sure he has read what was said about him in the off season and a prolonged slump to start the season might end up having him ask himself if the negative things might not be true. On the other hand, Cecchini has gotten of to a flying start and Nimmo has gone deep a couple of times in the past few days. Would like to see Dom put together a small string of multi hit games to get him going in the right direction.

It is early, but I hope Smith does well. Early signs are a bit concerning - but it is early. Some guys slump early, some later. Let's hope for 4 hits today.
