Binghamton 4 - Akron 3

The Binghamton Mets scored all their runs with two outs en route to a 4-3 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Aderlin Rodriguez delivered a tie-breaking single in the third and the B-Mets pitching staff kept Akron off the board over the final seven innings for Binghamton’s second straight win.

Binghamton jumped on the board in the first inning against Akron starter Mike Clevinger. With the bases loaded, Xorge Carrillo lined a two-out, two-run single into right. Jared King extended Binghamton’s lead with a run-producing single with two outs in the second inning.

The RubberDucks chipped away with a succession of seeing-eye singles in the second inning against Luis Cessa. With two aboard, Jordan Smith rolled a grounder just out of reach of Aderlin Rodriguez at first to plate Akron’s first run. With runners at the corners, Smith stole second, prompting Tony Wolters to take home when Xorge Carrillo fired a throw through. Jeremy Lucas capped the three-run inning by threading an RBI single past Gavin Cecchini at short.

The B-Mets fought back in the third after watching their three-run lead evaporate. Jayce Boyd started the rally by ripping a double to the left-field corner. Following a walk, Rodriguez zipped the first pitch he saw up the middle for a single, plating Boyd from second with the go-ahead run.
Cessa put his bumpy second inning in the review mirror and registered four straight scoreless innings. After surrendering six hits to the first 10 batters he faced, the righty held Akron to a 1-for-12 clip, preserving Binghamton’s one-run lead.

Matt Koch posted a scoreless seventh and collected the first two outs in the eighth before ceding to Dario Alvarez. Wolters greeted the southpaw by ripping a fly ball to right that King reeled in with his back against the wall to end the inning.

Alvarez returned for the ninth and walked Jordan Smith on four pitches before handing off to Jon Velasquez. The righty retired Bryson Myles and struck out Lucas. Smith swiped second on the strikeout and scampered to third when Carrillo’s throw sailed into center. With the tying run on third, Velasquez fanned Anthony Gallas to secure his sixth save of the season.

Cessa (3-1) allowed three runs on eight hits, but just two over his four innings to earn his second victory of the year against the RubberDucks. Clevinger (1-2) was tagged for four runs on eight hits and suffered his second loss against Binghamton.

The B-Mets (17-11) continue their three-game series against the RubberDucks on Saturday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Michael Fulmer gets the nod against RHP Cody Anderson.
