LAST GAME: Binghamton was shutout for the first time in 44 games, 5-0, against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton was held to seven hits and went 1-for-4 with men in scoring position. Seth Lugo tossed seven shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out six in a no-decision. Chase Huchingson walked four batters en route to allowing five runs in the eighth inning. He became the third B-Met reliever to walk four batters in an outing this season. Julian Hilario made his B-Met debut, tossing a shutout frame. Jairo Perez registered multiple hits for the third straight game. Binghamton split the four game set with New Hampshire.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara makes his seventh start of the season and second against Harrisburg. The righty is coming off a win last time out, tossing 5.2 shutout innings against Richmond. He allowed six baserunners, four via base hits, while striking out four. It was his first win since facing Harrisburg five starts prior. He allowed three runs and six hits in five innings against the Senators. Lefties are batting .317 against Lara, compared to .203 for righties. He has pitched to a 1.61 ERA in four road starts, holding opponents to a .188 average. The B-Mets are 4-2 in his six starts.
HARRISBURG STARTER: RHP Paolo Espino makes his eighth appearance and seventh start. It will be his second against the B-Mets. Espino is coming off a loss, allowing four runs and six hits in five innings against Trenton. The righty walked a season-high three, while matching his season-high with six strikeouts. He has allowed seven runs and 15 hits in 8.2 total innings over his last two starts. All three losses have come on the road, while Espino has held opponents to a .208 average at Metro Bank Park. He has allowed eight first inning runs over his six starts. He took the loss in his first appearance against Binghamton, allowing four runs in five innings. He struck out six while surrendering a season-high eight hits. Espino is looking for his first win since August 13, 2014, 12 appearances (11 starts) ago.
VS. HARRISBURG: The two teams split a four game series at NYSEG Stadium in April, with Binghamton winning the first two. The B-Mets hit .320 in the series, averaging six runs over the four games. Binghamton’s pitching staff worked to a 5.75 ERA, walking 23 Senators in the four games. The B-Mets had six errors in the four games.
VS. NL AFFILIATES: The B-Mets are 3-4 in their first seven games against NL affiliates, but not because they missed the designated hitter. Binghamton hit .293 and averaged 4.6 runs over the seven games. The B-Mets hit .265, averaging 4.4 runs a game, in their 30 contests with a DH.
SHUTOUT: Binghamton was shutout Sunday for the first time in 44 games. The B-Mets were 5-6 last season following a shutout, averaging 5.4 runs a game. They averaged 5.0 runs in their other 131 games. Binghamton is 15-13 under Pedro Lopez in games following a shutout. The B-Mets have not been shutout in consecutive games since July 16-17, 2006.
NO RELIEF: Chase Huchingson became the third B-Met to walk four batters in an outing Sunday. Binghamton’s bullpen has walked five less batters than the starting rotation, in 83.1 less innings. The pen averages 4.4 walks every nine innings pitched. As a group, the relievers have also allowed as many runs, and one more earned run, than the rotation. Seven of the B-Mets 16 losses have come from their relievers, who have pitched to a combined 5.70 ERA this season.
PITCHERS BATTING: B-Met pitchers are 2-for-15 at the plate this season, with both hits going for extra bases.
