May 11th 2015 -- Cubs 4, Mets 3

Monday night in Chicago, the friendly confines weren't so friendly to Jacob deGrom as Kris Bryant hit his first Wrigley field homer (2), a 2 run shot and was followed by a solo blast by Anthony Rizzo (7)in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Cubs hold on to beat the Mets 4-3.

Jon Lester started for the Cubs. The Mets got to him in the top of the 4th when Kevin Plawecki ‘s RBI single scored Wilmer Flores to make it 3-1.  deGrom escaped out of a brutal 4th inning with only one run scoring, that in the form of a RBI single Addison Russell and it was 4-1 Chicago.

In the 6th the Mets bats made some noise as Lucas Duda (3) and Flores (4) hit back to back jacks off Lester to pull to 4-3.

Lester went 6 innings allowing 5 hits 3 runs (all earned) walking 4 and struck out 6.  The Cub bullpen came through with 3 scoreless innings after that.  Hector Rondon pitched the 9th for this 7th save.  deGrom went 5 innings allowing 5 hits 4 runs (all earned) he walked 4 and struck out 5. He takes the loss falling to 3-4, his ERA rises to 3.46. Lester gets the win he improves to 3-2.

The Mets managed only 6 hits on the night. Duda led the way with a pair. The Mets drop the first game of this 4 game set. They now stand at 20-12 on the year and are 7-9 on the road.  Tuesday night is game two of the set. It’s the ML debut of Noah Syndergaard (0-0 0.00) for the Mets.  Jake Arrieta (3-3 3.41) goes for the Cubbies.

This doesn't look like the kind of team you are going to like playing against this week.

Bats vs. balls and they do have the young bats.

For those of you that don't realize it, Bryant was drafted as the 2nd overall pick in the 2013 draft. We had no chance to get him.

On the other hand, Rizzo was a 6th round pick. Everyone missed on him

Painful night. I've decided to give up Wrigley gum to get back at the Cubs. Anything to help the cause.

Easy, Eraff....Collins wanted to go with the hot hand in Mayberry, and Tejada is a feared pinch hitter. By the way, where's David Wright when you need him? Oh, I forgot...he was hurt heroically trying to steal a base when they were 3 runs up, back when I was very young.
