5/13/15

May 13th 2015 -- Cubs 2, Mets 1

Jeurys Familia walked Chris Coghlan with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Cubs come behind and beat the Mets 2-1.

The loss wastes a brilliant outing by Matt Harvey.  In one of his best outing since his return from surgery Harvey went 7 innings allowed just 3 hits walking 2 and striking out 9.

The Mets struggling offense gave Harvey a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th. Curtis Granderson singled and went to 3rd on a double by Daniel Murphy. Granderson was then driven home on a RBI grounder by Michael Cuddyer.  The Mets only managed 6 hits on the night. Murphy went 2 for 3 to lead the way.  Harvey gave way to Carlos Torres in the 8th and he couldn't hold back the Cubs.  Addison Russell singled and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Then Dexter Fowler singled scoring Russell to tie the game at 1. Torres started the 9th for the Mets.  Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro singled. Miguel Montero was intentionally walked to load the bases with no out. Jeurys Familia came in. He struck out Jorge Soler for the first out but then walked Coghlan bringing home Rizzo and that was the game.

Matt Harvey gets the no decision lowering his ERA to 2.31. Torres gets the loss as he falls to 1-2. Hector Rondon gets the win, he’s 2-0.  The Mets are now 2-4 on this road trip. They stand at 20-14 overall and are 7-11 on the road.

Thursday afternoon the Mets look to grab the final game of the series. The game starts at 2:20 EST. Jonathon Niese (3-2 1.95) goes for the Mets, Travis Wood (2-2 4.96) goes for the Cubs.
