May 9th 2015 -- Mets 3, Phillies 2

Saturday night at Citizens Band Park, Juan Lagares hit a two run homer in the top of the 7th inning. The Mets come from behind to beat the Phillies 3-2.

It was Jonathon Niese vs Aaron Harang on the mound.   The Met offense struggled again in this outing. They took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 5th when Cesar Hernandez misplayed a Lucas Duda grounder allowing Ruben Tejada to score an unearned run. In the bottom of the 6th a throwing error by Dilson Herrera set up a sac-fly Jeff Francoeur to tie the game.  A Carlos Ruiz double over the third base bag scored Darin Ruf to make it 2-1 Phillies.  In the top of the 7th Terry Collins allowed Niese to hit for himself. Niese singled to right and then a batter later Lagares hit his 1st homer of the year to bring the Mets from behind.

In the bottom of the 8th the Phillies managed to load the bases against Carlos and Alex Torres. With 1 out and the bases loaded Buddy Carlyle came on and got Ruiz to hit into an inning and game saving double play.

Jeurys Familia pitched the 9th for this 12th save on the year.

Niese gets the win improving to 3-2 on the season going 7 allowing 5 hits 2 runs (none earned) while walking 1 and striking out 6. Niese’s ERA falls to 1.95.  Harang takes the loss on his birthday falling to 3-3 on the year.

The Mets managed 9 hits on the night Tejada and Michael Cuddyer each with 2.  Going 0 for 4, Kevin Plawecki’s  7 game hitting streak came to an end.

With the win the Mets improve to 19-11 and are now 6-8 on the road. Sunday afternoon at 1:35 pm EST is the rubber game of the series. Bartolo Colon (5-1 2.90) looks for his 6th win and a series win for the Mets.  Chad Billingsly (0-1 9.00) goes for the Phils.
