5/5/15

Minor League Recap - 5-4-15

Minor League Player of The Night - Righty Robert Gsellman for taking a no hitter into the 8th inning vs. Palm Beach. He's been outstanding, and ran his record to 4-0 last night. He might start to be called the White Knight of Gotham South if he keeps that up.q

Honorable Mention -Brandon Nimmo going 3 for 5, and Jean Rodriguez with a triple and a come-from -behind 2 run bomb in the 6th, on a night the Gnats rallied from 3 runs down in a rare Savannah win.

AAA - Las Vegas - postponed in Albuquerque.

RHSP Tyler Pill - got the night off.

Mack - RHSP Logan Verrett has been returned to the Mets and assigned to Las Vegas. This is happening at the perfect time after Matt Bowman went on the DL. My assumption is he will join a rotation of Pill, Darin Gorski, Noah Syndergaard, and Steven Matz

AA - Portland (10-14) 4  - Binghamton (14-10) 1

    RHSP John Gant -  5.0-IP, 8-H, 4-R, 4-K, 4-BB, 4.64

    CF Brandon Nimmo -  3-5, 1-R, 2-doubles, .304

    2B T J Rivera -  2-4,  .396. He's off the DL - and hitting.

3 errors did not help, but you can't win them all.

A+ - St. Lucie (13-12)  4  - Palm Beach (13-12) 0

    RHSP Robert Gsellman - 8.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 6-K, 3-BB, 1.55, 4-0

    RHRP Akeel Morris -  1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 2.70

    RF Vincent Cruzado -  3-4, 2-R, .257

Lokdown pitching for the St Lucie Mets.  "Great, we got that guy Gsellman out of the game, maybe we have a chance.  Oh is that Akeel Morris coming in from the pen? Let's make dinner plans, 'cause we ain't got a prayer."

A - Savannah (8-16) 6 - Lakewood (13-12) 3

    RHSP Scarlyn Reyes - 5.2-IP, 7-H, 3-R, 4-K, 2-BB, 4.15

    RHRP David Roseboom -  1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 0.66

    SS Jean Rodriguez -  2-4, 2-R, triple, HR (1), 3-RBI, .295

Savannah is 8-16 in part due to the foibles of Vicente Lupo, who is hitting .155 with 25 Ks in 58 at bats.  Ivan Wilson (who ought to be doing short season ball again to fix his K woes) thinks that is not so bad.
Goat du jour: the rain in Albuquerque, which is all that could keep the 51's from winning their 11th straight.

Hi Mack or anyone else: got a good read on Gsellman? Drafted in 2011 at 18, he is 21-15 career, 2.73, but even better this year and last: a combined 14-6, 2.35 in 145 innings. Does he project as a future ML starter?

I see Nimmo and Conforto both starting and starring in the OF by the time the playoffs roll around for the 51s

Tom -

Probably too early to tell.

Not much of an interview.
