5/7/15

Minor League Recap - 5-6-15

Minor League Player of The Night - Travis Taijeron, for a 3-3, 2 walk night, helping Vegas record its 13th straight winn.

Honorable Mention - Eudor Garcia, for stepping right into his first game as a Gnat and going 3 for 5, a much-needed offensive shot in the arm for Savannah.

AAA - Las Vegas - (19-8) 6 - Albuquerque (11-15) 4

    RHSP Tyler Pill - 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3K, 8.14 (1 for 2 hitting)

    SS Matt Reynolds 2-4, R, 2B, BB, .333

    RF Travis Taijeron, 3-3, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI, .362

    2B Wifredo Tovar, 1-4, 2 RBI, .300

Vegas went into the 9th tied 3-3 and streak on the line, and scratched out 3 runs for the 13th straight win.  Tyler Pill not great, but his best start of 2015.

Taijeron having a terrific year, but still striking out once every 3 plate appearances.  But it is interesting that a similar major leaguer, Chris Davis, has 40 Ks in 88 official at bats, still hitting .273, and is a mainstay with the O's in 2015. Draw your own comparisons and conclusions.

4 relievers allowed just an unearned run in the last 4 innings, with Bradford nabbing his 4th save.

Another game of typical Vegas offense: 13 hits, 6 walks, 6 runs. Even without Plawecki, Herrera, and Monell. Wow.

AA Cortland (11-15) 6  -  Binghamton (15-11) 3

    RHSP Rainy Lara - 5.0-IP, 9-H, 4-R, 5-K, 2-BB, 3.71

    RF Brandon Nimmo - 2-4, 1-RBI, .300

    C Xorge Carillo - 1-3, 2-R, double, 1-RBI, .302

A+ - Palm Beach (15-12) 3  - St. Lucie (13-14) 0

    RHSP Marcos Molina - 5.0-IP, 4-H, 2-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 3.33

Mack - I really like what this 20-year old continues to do at the advanced A+ level. He now has five starts under his belt and has 28 strikeouts in 27 innings. I expect him to remain pitching at this level for the entire season, which would set his ETA for opening day 2018. A real prospect.

    DH Michael Conforto  -  3-4, double, .306

A - Savannah (9-16) 8 - Greenville (15-11) 3

    RHSP Corey Oswalt -  6.0-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 7-K, 1-BB, 4.76

    CF John Mora -  1-4, 1-R, HR (2), 2-RBI, .276

    3B Eudor Garcia - 3-5, 1-R, double, .600

Mack - This was Garcia's first 2015 game after being reassigned from Extended Camp. The ex-4th round 2014 pick is considered prospect material after hitting .262 last year for Kingsport.

GOAT: Beck Wheeler let the Binghamton game get out of hand allowing 2 runs in his 2 innings of work and seeing his ERA climb to an unsightly 7.71.
