Tom Brennan - EARLY DIVIDENDS - 2015 DRAFT:

Tom Brennan - EARLY DIVIDENDS - 2015 DRAFT:

Before I get into early dividends from the 2015 draft, a few points, s'il vous plait:

·       2nd rounder Desmond Lindsay, 3rd rounder Max Wotell, 5th rounder Thomas Szapucki, and 16th rounder Dillon Becker are signed but have yet to play. So the only dividends from them are signed contracts, so far!

·       Everyone except 15th, 18th, and 19th Found picks in top 20 have signed.

·       Below the top 20 rounds, just 3 signers this far, per the Mets website.

So...who's doing what so far, through Tuesday’s contests?

David Thompson: 3B (4) - Brooklyn 16 AB, .313/.294/.500, only 1K

Chase Ingram: RHP (6) - Kingsport 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 6.75 ERA

Corey Taylor: RHP (7) - Brooklyn 3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0.00 ERA

Pat Mazelka: C (8) - Kingsport 28 AB, .286/.355/.393, 5K

Kevin Kaczmarski: OF (9) - Kingsport 27 AB, .370/.452/.593, 3 K

Witt Haggard: RHP (10) - Kingsport 0.2 IP, 4 BB,1 K, 4 R, 54.00 ERA

Jake Simon: LHP (11) - Gulf Coast League 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 0.00 ERA

Joe Shaw: RHP (12) - Kingsport 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 K, 0.00 ERA

P J Conlon: LHP (13) - Brooklyn 2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K, 0.00 ERA

Vince Siena: 2B (14) - Brooklyn 42 AB, .405/.468/.476, 7 K

Sixto Torres LHP (17) - Gulf Coast League 2 IP. 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K, 0.00 ERA

Taylor Henry LHP (21) - Gulf Coast League 0.2 IP, 0.00

Kenny Bautista RF (23) - Gulf Coast League.19 AB, .316/.381/.579, 2 steals

Seth Davis LHP (29) - Kingsport 1.0 IP, 0.00

Some nice performances, huh?

Most notably Vince Siena, Kevin Kaczmarski, David Thompson, and Kenny Bautista in the hitting department.

And most 2015 draft pitchers have done well so far in very limited work.

I feel a draft – more like a warm breeze so far.

I'm a recognition of the organization's logjam in its pipeline of middle infield prospects, only one has been drafted in 2015 and signed - Vince Sienna. Nice to see him hitting so well.

Tom,

Good job. Based upon my basic math it appears that the Mets are $219K under the cap. From what you have heard with your sources do you see us making a run at LT Tolbert, Jordan Verndon or perhaps on one of the young high school left handed pitchers?

We picked up Burdick, Ramirez and Berrios last year by giving each $150K, so there should be a few players left who would forego college for the right price.

Hey, Buddy, thanks. I do not have any info re: your qustion, but perhaps Mack, Reese, or Chris do. If so, take a crack at replying to this, gents.

A young, non-draftee off to a sensational start in the GCL is Ali Sanchez, BTW. He and a few other GCL fellas are tearing it up again today.

@Tom

Ali Sanchez was one of Sandy's International Free Agent Signings.

He has the makings of becoming a solid MLB contributor if he continues to develop.

Another guy to keep an eye on is Adrian Almeida

@Buddy3

To my knowledge the Mets are still trying to sign at least one of Verndon, Enright, and McClanahan.

The club has until July 18th.

That said, anything over $100k is going to count against the bonus pool and idk if ~$300k is enough to convince any of these guys to forgo college.

Thx, Chris.

Thanks. Very surprised they spent $400K on Simon - it does mot leave a lot to go around.
