Hot Stove - 11-13-17

OF Leonys Martin has passed through and is now officially a free agent and can sign with any team. Martin has never produced killer numbers either in the pros or the minors, but could be a good addition as a 5th outfielder until Michael Conforto is fully healed. After that, he could be shipped off to Las Vegas to begin his AAAA career.

C Tim Federowicz  is also now a free agent. Federowicz has hit .293 and .300 in the last two seasons in AAA, and has not received a proper chance at the MLB level. He'll play 2018 as a 30 year old and could be paired with Tomas Nido at Vegas as an insurance policy.

The Braves have released RP Armando Rivero, who came to the Braves from the Cubs via the Rule 5 Draft. He missed the entire 2017 season due to shoulder problems and his release from the Braves might indicate it hasn't healed well enough to return him to the level needed for a professional baseball pitcher, but it wouldn't kill the Mets to offer him a look-see, or at least, a tryout. He's old 28 and has a 4-year minor league stat line (A-AAA) of 160 appearances, 12-7, 2.70, 220-IP, 303-K. The walks are high (107), but so are the Ks.

The Atlanta Braves have hired Alex Anthopoulos as their new General Manager.

Leonys Martin might be worth a try in the spring as a 5th OF.

Tim F - why not, as long as he doesn't hold back Mazeika progress.

Rivero - probably released for good reason, but might be worth a peek.

What makes Martin, a career . 247 hitter, more desirable as a #5 than Aoki, who hits. 280 every year? Maybe Martin comes very cheap, but Aoki may also.

Aoki would be my first choice, no doubt...he is better. Mets need to spend to get good players 1 thru 25. Martin would probably be super cheap - but could be the next mayberry Jr retread
