I have a horrible suspicion that Sandy Alderson will look at him as a short term (payroll flexibility) solution at a bargain price as he needs a bat until Michael Conforto returns. 170Ks and .203 AVG. Sorry, but two consecutive years of HRs in the low 20s doesn't suggest he's the solution.
I would 100% take a look at Jose Bautista on a 1 year $6M contract to be the fill in RF until Conforto is healthy.
If he performs well....great....keep him in RF, slide Conforto to CF again.
If not.....at least its only a 1 year deal. We could do a lot worse with $6M (Cough...cough....Alejandro De Aza....cough)
For the same 6 mil or less we can get a better all-around backup in Aoki. Bautista is a one-dimensional guy, and that dimension is shrinking.
Kind of with Bill on Aoki vs. Bautista....Aoki has been remarkably consistent with quality output, while Bautista's decline may just continue.
